Barry McGee (PRADA)

This is the first comprehensive survey of San Francisco based graffiti artist Barry “Twist” McGee, published in conjunction with a large 2002 exhibition at Fondazione Prada, Milan.

Working in the streets of San Francisco and signing his works with the tag ‘Twist’, McGee is considered to be one of the leading figures in Californian urban subculture with a increasingly international reputation. His installations draw on graffiti to, as he says, to “reflect the melancholia, humour, and sensory overload of urban street life.” The boldness of his work is mirrored in this catalogue: page upon page of full spreads, installation views, collages, photographs by McGee of work and life on the streets and text restricted to the tags and within the works of art themselves.
