‘Diasporan Daughters’ compiles a series of staged self-portraits and text excerpts. It portrays different parts of my identity, being a mixed black woman in Denmark. It moreover shows fictional characters, which are reflections of recent events and societies alleged perceptions. I hope to create imagery, that everyone I try to speak for (and with) can translate into something they find forceful.
Growing up as a minority in my community, I am portraying the concept of identity within my visual art and photography. My work often reflects own experiences living within the intersection between different societies, cultures, communities as well as (racialised) ethnicities.
I am both subject of my own art, as well as the creator of it.
